On November 5, 2024, the completely renovated  blocks 4 and 5 of the Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment in Botevgrad were officially opened, which house the pediatrics, physiotherapy and infectious diseases departments. “Two years ago, I wished that the Botevgrad Hospital would become the most modern municipal hospital in Bulgaria. Today, I can already say - we have the best municipal hospital, not only in terms of material resources, but also in terms of medical services and financial condition,” said the mayor of the Botevgrad Municipality, Ivan Gavalyugov. The renovation was financed through a loan from  FLAG, which provided a total of 2.5 million BGN for the implementation of this project.

The main objective of the project is to introduce energy efficiency measures in the two hospital blocks, which will change the energy consumption class of the buildings from class “E” to class “B”. The planned savings in energy consumption are in the amount of 3,036,568 kWh/year. and saved CO2 emissions – 1,175.64 tons/year. The project is a pilot for the implementation of the financial instrument for  clean energy transition FLAG-FICET, and its implementation can serve as an example of the benefits of implementing energy efficiency measures in other municipal medical institutions and public buildings in the country.

MHAT – Botevgrad is a diagnostic and treatment structure of regional importance, providing health services to the residents of the Botevgrad municipality and the neighboring municipalities – Pravets and Etropole. The medical institution provides hospital treatment in basic and specialized specialties, including pediatrics, orthopedics and traumatology, physical and rehabilitation medicine and a number of other specialties.

The renovated children's ward with a capacity of 14 beds, furnished under the “Firefly” project of the “For Good” Foundation, was designed with a focus on creating an environment that combines home comfort with conditions for applying the most modern medical practices. In addition to the children's play area and rooms for mothers of young patients, the ward also has a kitchen, a dining room and a terrace. A special intensive care area will provide 24-hour monitoring for those in need.

The implementation of the project is another example that shows that financing from the FLAG Fund offers municipalities important advantages for the implementation of significant infrastructure and public projects. Through the Fund, local authorities receive flexible financial solutions and access to financing on favorable terms, which will allow them to quickly and effectively implement integrated projects necessary to improve local infrastructure and quality of life.
